Red-Crowned crane. Hokkaido, Japan / February 2024
A pair of red-crowned cranes dance poetically in the snowfall, strengthening their bond. This poetic scene is found in Japanese traditional paintings, and shows black spots with bright ornaments that were added in the studio using lighting technology. These spots symbolize both the danger to the endangered species, but also represent the creativity of the local people who contribute to the protection of these animals and without whose efforts the species would be extinct.
